Amazingly small map.
Only one map at that.
8 vs 8 deathmatch only battles.
The game area is too small and the match is over in less than 5 minutes. I'm completely underwhelmed. I thought "FREE REALMS" and "HAPPY WARS" were bad, but this is much worse.
Complete the "Academy" portion of the game and things open up. The play type you describe is a recent change (one I honestly don't really support) to the training matches portion of the game which is a one time aspect until your toon reaches 10k lifetime WP. After that there are three match types with 16v16 teams and then FW and PC battles on top of that.
The new player experience does need work, but it's far from the full scope or value of the game. Stick around for a bit and give the real game a try, don't judge it on the tutorial alone.

Cheers, Cross But surely, It needs to capture new players, by at least giving them a small glimpse of what is to come, If i had started to that, I woulda been gone. It's poor, and I from what I was hearing on the mics last night, not everyone is wandering about life outside academy, I had multiple questions asked about the Maps, vehicles, game modes. New players need to see more tan 1 slimmed down game mode on a slimmed down map, 30 times over before seing the actual game, It's like CCP is tryoing to break their will.
I completely agree that the system currently in place needs improvement, if for no other reason than because it does not accurately represent the game nor does it adequately prepare new players for participation upon their exit. I'm also not a fan of the recent changes to the Academy system which watered it down so much.
The tutorials generally, the Academy specifically, and the recruiting system as well all need improvements to support and engage new players more fully and effectively. For more details on my ideas regarding these things check out the following links.
